. good day. i'm andrea mitchell live in washington. president obama and congressional republicans remain worlds apart on a realistic solution to prevent billions of dollars in automatic cuts. the sequester from kicking in march 1st. right now the politics are trumping any movement towards compromise. joining me now for our daily fix chris calizza, msnbc contributor and managing of post politics.com, and washington post reporters laurie montgomery and nia malika henderson. chris, first to you. set the stage for us. there's no solution in sight. is the white house expecting it has the high road in terms of politics of it and that republicans will be on the defensive because i don't see any way they're bridging the gap. there is no outward ed that began is being bridged. i think the government sees the only way it could be bridged by agreeing with some tax increases, and they say, you know what, all these cuts, sure it's a meat clever approach, not a scalpel, but at least they're cuts, and it's not about tax increases. we kind of -- they believe that to maintain the core of who the republic
, duty that we see on display in our military. >> somewhat awkwardly president obama discovered that that's "not in my backyard" can apply to things like proposal to -- >> nobody who is going to buy a corporate jet is going to not buy it because of a small tax break. >> but you understand these middle class workers say it is because of the threat of this proposal to take away. >> i'm sure that some of these companies who want to keep these tax breaks for their customers, i get that, but that's not the reason that there's going to be an impact in terms of their sales. >> you could tell which states actually have some of these companies that build some of these private planes. president's pressure shows no signs of swaying republicans. both sides are digging in their heels, leading to a game of finger pointing about who loved the sequester more. democrats, they participated yesterday by circulating a 2011 powerpoint that speaker boehner's office had put out at the time. they did that yesterday. he created it when he was trying to sell the deal to his more conservative members. so republican

campaign and we can't afford it and frankly we don't have the time to do it. president obama has done his part in every one of its budget submission to the congress. president obama has kept his promise to increase the size of the nsa budget, but as we all know, the president can only request funds. only the congress can authorize and appropriate. speaking of president obama, that may say that the american people have a president who is truly animated and engaged on the importance of our nuclear posture to the united states and international security. as we heard last week, president obama continues to make nuclear security and progress towards his agenda a priority. but the domestic agenda in his second term will be jampacked. his political capital is 30 stretched thin. does that mean we accept other national priorities may crowd out the attention for modernization, infrastructure investments and other things important to the complex? i hope not. with the presidential agenda, we the nuclear defense need to help shape the debate rather than assume the president alone cannot will expend po
